I love this Damian. It's well-written! Very evocative. It just moves a little fast. Will you be going into more detail later on? I'd love to know if the books had an impact on you, how your physical and mental transformation happened. I love the tea segment!
Thanks Conny. Yes, I felt the same about it. I felt like I was rushing it. I was a bit pushed for time when I was writing it - and had a busy week at work in my day job and family life. That’s my current challenge. Hopefully I can keep the words coming. It’s a struggle sometimes and it may show.
My venture off on my bicycle and later that year, Spain, and a lover - all were profound experiences. Almost too rich. The main purpose of my writing over the next couple of months is to bring something together- hopefully a short book - for my son to read in the future - as a kind of guide. I hope to go from looking backward to being at peace with the here and now after all this.
There are moments when life becomes very small again.
A road.
A cup of tea.
A body moving through weather.
And strangely, nothing feels missing there.
Yes. That was such a simpler time.
Walking with poetry in mind is a strong working title.
This is so very evocative, bravo! It reminded me in some ways of Donald Hall’s book Life Work.
Thanks Lev. I haven’t heard of Donald Hall’s work. You’ve made me curious. I’m reading The Living Mountain by Ban Shepherd. I’m enjoying her prose.
I've used Donald Hall in Creative Writing workshops and also the opening chapter when teaching online or working individually with memoir writers.
